We started Links to Library Read aloud program.  The read aloud volunteer makes a commitment to read once a month for 7 months - October through April. The same volunteer will read in the same classroom for the year.  During each classroom visit, the volunteer will read aloud and then offer a variety of books from which each child can choose one book to keep.  By the end of the school year, each student will have a home library of 7 books.  This year we are excited to have Shelley Choquette visiting our class.

Welcome to Grade 4
2018-2019

September

The month of September we have worked on routines of the classroom as well as expectations of class and school. This year we have art and music which is different from past years as well as a morning recess. In math we have been piloting a new math series, ReadyMath. This series has an individual online component as well as a practice book for student to write in. In science we have been using the new Stemscopes, a science new program that has hands on activities. We have been studying Rock patterns with the wondering question of If environments change so slowly, how can we know what they used to be like?  In social studies we have worked on map skills.
In writing we worked on introduction with lead (hook), transitions and conclusion to improve our narratives.   In reading we continued our routines of independent reading,  and wrote a letter to share our thinking while we read.
Please take the time to read with your child.  Your child should read for at least 20 minutes nightly.

Our pre-reading test below. We found out that we should read all directions first before we just start answering questions.
